Pink Ombre Watercolor and Gold Embossed Card

Over the holidays, I made a series of cards with watercolored backgrounds to try out the medium/technique. This card was made with a friend in mind, who is due with a girl in March.

With this card, I also gave making a shaker card a try for the first time. It turned out okay - still some kinks on my end to work out (like . . . how to get the sequins to NOT stick to the sides of the fun foam I used to pop up the card). Using fun foam for a shaker card came from a Jennifer McGuire video (though I don't remember which one exactly).

Watercolor So Happy For You Card

Over the holidays, I wanted to give watercolors a try after seeing watercoloring used as a technique on various layouts and cards recently. I picked up an inexpensive 24-color set at Jo-Ann to get started with.

Having taken several art classes in high school, it crossed my mind at one point, why didn't I give watercolors a try then? I thought the idea of watercoloring a whole painting daunting at the time. I had given oil painting a try in high school and that proved to be really hard for me, not my thing.

Even now, I couldn't produce any sort of watercolor painting, but just painting pretty colors abstractly on a card? Done.

I had a particular recipient in mind when I made this card - a couple that we are friends with got engaged over the holidays. I first went with white embossing for the sentiment, but it didn't stand out enough against the watercolored background, so I added silver embossing over it, off-setting it a bit.

Paper: Bazzill Basics Paper silver cardstock
Embellishments: silver sequins from Jo-Ann
Stamps: Jillibean Soup Handwritten Sentiments stamp set
Tools: Loew-Cornell Dry Pan Watercolor Paint Cakes 24 Colors from Jo-Ann; white and silver embossing powder from Jo-Ann; We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper

Snuggles Layout

Over the holidays, I posted this picture of Evie and Greg on a chilly morning (chilly for Arizona, at least) to Instagram because it was a moment I wanted to capture and ultimately scrapbook. I had the original photo printed in 5x7 a couple of weeks ago and made this layout with a number of Elle's Studio tags, paper, stamps, and embellishments:

The patterned paper was mostly pink, but I'm glad I added in some blues and teals to balance out the pink. I also added some silver Stickles to the inside of one of the heart wood veneer shapes, and did some second generation stamping with the washi tape stamps.

SUPPLIES:

Paper: Elle's Studio Shine Beach Towel patterned paper; We R Memory Keepers (Sheer Metallic Silver Sentiment vellum); Doodlebug Designs (Sprinkles Peacock dotted vellum); navy vellum (from my older supplies); Bazzill Basics (pink solid cardstock)
Embellishments: Elle's Studio (Shine Extra Tidbits, Penelope Lil' Snippets - For the record, Serendipity Tiny Tags, You and Me Tidbits, On This Day stamp, Washi Tape stamp, Cameron alphabet stamp, wood veneers); Pinkfresh Studio (scallop puffy sticker); silver sequins from Jo-Ann
Stamps: Technique Tuesday (Big Timber lowercase alphabet stamp - older stamp set, so retired)
Ink: Ranger (silver Stickles, Distress Inks in Stormy Sky, Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, and Old Paper)

Photo Booth Layout with Project Life

I'm a fan of photo booth pictures, and I had these Doc & Eddy's photo booth pictures waiting to be scrapbooked, which I finally did last month.

I used the Project Life Seafoam Edition Core Kit (designed by Elise Blaha Cripe) as the base of the layout and followed a more traditional pocket scrapbooking approach (except on paper instead of in actual pockets), which lent itself to very compartmentalized scrapbooking. I added various stamps and embellishments to each journaling card.

I've found the line stamp from Pinkfresh Studio to be pretty versatile and have used it on at least a couple other cards (Glitter Scribble Card and Retro Sketches 147 Birthday Card). I have another card and a layout where I used the line stamp as well.

SUPPLIES:

Paper: vellum; Paper Source paper bag solid cardstock
Embellishments: Pinkfresh Studio ombre washi tape; clear rhinestones from Jo-Ann
Stamps: Pinkfresh Studio (line stamp, frame stamp); Papertrey Ink sentiment stamp
Tools: Martha Stewart (glassene butterfly punch); white embossing powder from Jo-Ann

Glitter Scribble Card

Back in December, we were killing time waiting to meet some family for dinner, when I came across the Studio Calico Print Shop 12x12 paper pad for $6 at Ross. Whaaaat! I guess it didn't occur to me that Ross might even have any good scrapbooking stuff . . . but they did.

I used one of the patterned papers in the Print Shop paper pad for this card, along with some Pinkfresh Studio products:

Retro Sketches 147 Birthday Card

The holidays, with all its relax and downtime, was good for crafting. I made a bunch of cards, made good progress on a layout of baby #2, and fiddled with using my new serger (gift from my dad - I still need to actually tackle the sewing projects though).

Here's a card from last weekend for this week's retro sketch:

I've been using the Silhouette a lot lately to cut out shapes/sentiments for cards, as well as a title for an in-progress layout. It's been under-utilized - I should use it more!

SUPPLIES:

Paper: Bazzill (Ambrosia Feather Berry/Ikat patterned paper, red, blue, and white solid cardstock); Paper Source (paper bag solid cardstock)
Embellishments: sequins from Jo-Ann
Stamps: Heidi Swapp (sentiment stamp - this is old! I got it when I first started to get more into paper crafting, so around 2007ish); Pinkfresh Studio (line/arrow stamp from Fresh Inspiration Kit Totally Delightful stamp set)
Tools: Silhouette Cameo (cut feathers); McGill (file tab punch); embossing powder from Jo-Ann

2013 Holiday Card Mini Album

I've always been a fan of hanging onto paper goods (in elementary school, it was Valentine's cards from the class party), and holiday cards are right up there. In my December mini albums of prior years, I included holiday cards that we received in the back of each album, but for 2013, I decided to drop the part of the mini album where I documented December and only kept the holiday cards we received bound in the mini album. (I didn't document our Decembers on a daily basis before anyway, just notable happenings during the month, so I felt like our Decembers weren't that exciting).

The front and back covers are a clear embossed white Bazzill cardstock, which I sprayed with Glimmer Mists and also die cut the title with the Silhouette. I included our 2013 holiday card at the beginning, though I also scrapbooked it separately (2013 Holiday Card Layout), as well as a couple pictures of Evie from the photo shoot (Evie 2013 Holiday Photo Layout). I may go back and do some brief journaling on the blank holiday card, but I'm good with it as-is too. For the binding, I used a strip of accordion-folded cardstock, like on the mini album in this Mini Album Foundations post. The accordion fold binding works well for smaller mini albums, but can get a little wonky with too many items.

Next up is to tackle the 2014 holiday card mini album. I may work back in some December highlights beyond just including the holiday cards, but something more scaled back than in prior years.

December 2012 Mini Album

Two years later . . . I'm finally posting about the mini album I put together for December 2012. Spring-ish of this year, I think I went as far as taking pictures of both 2012 and 2013 mini albums with the intention of posting them, but the pictures didn't turn out that well (I should have, but didn't, bust out the tripod), so I scrapped those pictures and here we are.
