Woven Background Birthday Card

I tried my hand at weaving a paper background, like this card by Kristina Werner on the Simon Says Stamp blog.

I put together this card for a birthday party we went to over the weekend, and the colors for this week's challenge at CAS-ual Fridays worked out well for a masculine card. I also added a layer of vellum to tone down the background.

We didn't stay for the whole party, but we were there long enough for the surprise part of it, which was fun to watch because the family had done a pretty good job of hiding the big shindig from the dad (who was turning 60). A whole bunch of out-of-town relatives even flew in for party.

Pigtails

I picked Evie up from daycare on Wednesday and the infant room teacher (who she goes to near the end of the day when they start consolidating different age groups - apparently Evie freaks out when she gets moved to the 2-year room, but not when she gets moved to the infant room) had put her hair into these tiny pigtails.

First: ACK. I can't stand the cuteness. I didn't realize that she even had enough hair to do pigtails?
Second: It was pretty tough getting Evie to be still long enough to snap a picture that wasn't (a) blurry or (b) had a funky expression in it. Easier with two people for sure, except that Greg was out of town.

Earlier in the week, No Doubt put out their new single in (I think) a while, Settle Down. Not bad - I feel like it's pretty true to their original style. It makes me think of Don't Speak being huge when I was in 7th grade, around 1996. That was 16 years ago. SIXTEEN. After doing the math, this is what I think: I'M OLD. Not like, really old. But sheesh.

Also, it reminds me of when Gwen Stefani did some solo stuff for a bit. She put out some catchy songs, all of which I listened to/watched the music videos for after watching the one for Settle Down:

June 2012 Scrap-a-Latte Cards

I think I found a new favorite in Pink Paislee's Nantucket collection:

PinkPaisleeNantucket6x6Pad

I made a few cards using papers from the 6x6 paper pad.

Onions Beware

Evie's in da house.

And she will eat. you. up.

I went to the grocery store after picking up Evie from daycare today. I gave her this onion while I picked up some other things and before I knew it, she started nom nomming on this onion like it was an apple or something. I tried to take it away from her, but she wasn't having any of that. We knew she liked onions, but I didn't realize she'd gnaw on an onion straight up. Cutie baby.

Three Ginkgos Art

Greg and I took a day trip to Bozeman while we were in Montana and walked around the historic downtown (as well as went to Costco and Bob Wards Sporting Goods, but that's not nearly as exciting to talk about). While walking around historic downtown, we went into the Altitude Gallery and saw some neat pressed leaf art by Owen Mortensen.

The gallery looks like an after-thought between two buildings, doesn't it?

We ended up getting this piece for our house:

And here's where we put it (the nail was already there from the previous owners, so that was easy). You stay classy, water closet:

The artist has other nice pieces, like these:

Too bad the bigger the piece, the bigger the price tag!

Crinkly Face Smile

This is one of our favorite photos of Evie, with her cute crinkly face smile:

Grace 2nd Bday_096_Crop

It was taken during a birthday party Stephanie and Julio were throwing for Gracie's 2nd birthday. Normally, if Evie sees that we are taking a photo of her, she gives us a blank stare. Maybe it's because she doesn't know what that contraption in front of our faces is. This picture was snapped before she realized a camera was on her.

I thought this picture would be a good fit for this week's I Heart Faces Photo Challenge, which I came across while blog surfing in Google Reader. This week's theme is Enjoying Life.
