Everyday Eclectic by Allison Kreft

Last month, the announcement came out that Hambly was winding down operations. Enter sad face. As if I didn't already hoard my Hambly papers and overlays . . .

Allison Kreft Abad, the graphic designer for Hambly, just released the full line of her new collection with Echo Park, Everyday Eclectic, which includes some of the Hambly designs that didn't make it to production. Enter happy face.

The designs are reminiscent of Hambly, because it's the same designer and all.

I'm looking forward to getting my little hands on these papers when they start shipping to stores next month.

Sometimes it amazes me how small of a world it is. Makes me go, Whoa. That just blew my mind. Couple of examples:
  • A couple/few months ago, I was at a campus event when I started talking to this freshman. And then he asked, "Wait . . . are you Kevin's sister?" Wha! How did he know?! I came to find out that he was a friend of my brother's in high school. He was probably at the big prom picture taking shindig that I went to May of last year. Makes me feel old.
  • Today, I was in a meeting with a couple of contacts at a client, when I/we figured out that (a) their daughters both went to the high school I went to, (b) they both graduated the same year as my brother, (c) my brother knew both of them, and (d) one of them is apparently the girl that my brother won 1st place with for an event at the Science Olympiad a couple years ago. Crazy!

Airplanes

Conversation with Greg just now:

Greg: What if - are you listening?
Shirley: Yeah, I'm listening.
Greg: What if we pretended that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
Shirley: OMG, you're ghetto.
Greg: We could make a wish right now. Wish right now.

Yes, conversation. It's kind of like when James Lipton recited K-Fed's "PopoZao" song on Conan or when Nicolas Cage recited LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" song on the radio.

CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #57 Card

CAS-ual Fridays challenge this week was to use acetate or vellum:

CFC57

When Emily was over a few weeks ago to craft, I tried out her ColorBox Frost White pigment ink and it worked quite nicely on dark cardstock, so I picked one up over the weekend when it was 40% off at Michael's. I used it on this card, and did some paper piecing with vellum and My Mind's Eye pink and blue patterned paper:

The paper piecing was a bit time consuming, but I like the end result.

Rainbow Chevron Card

Lots of chevron lately in the crafty world.

I hoarded my Perhaps collection pack for a while until I used it to make this Week in the Life 2010 mini-album. Then I hoarded it some more until I busted it out this week to do a card for this BasicGrey card sketch:

using this month's chevron theme.

Rainbow and chevron together? I'm a fan.

Orange & Blue Colorblocked Birthday Card

PageMaps card sketch via the Scrap-a-Latte Facebook page:

I tried to find the original sketch on the PageMaps site or blog, but either it's not there or I didn't look hard enough. Oh well . . . if I come across it, I'll update the link.

I got around to making a card based on the sketch last weekend:

Be Happy Today & Always Starburst Punch Card

The nice thing about this stamp:

is that you can use it as-is, or mask the top or bottom to break the sentiment into two separate ones. I masked the top part of the stamp for this card:

With:
Bazzill cardstock; Martha Stewart starburst punch; Ranger Distress Inks; Hero Arts cling stamp; BasicGrey clear stamp; Unity Stamp Co. cling stamps

Work has been crazy busy the last month or so, so I'm glad I got a bit of time this past weekend to finish off a couple cards. I'm looking forward to the craziness dying down, hopefully this week, although that's not really shaping up to be the case.

  • She learned how to walk halfway through the month, a step or two at a time. Now, she's walking a lot more, as can be seen in the video. More walking than crawling, at this point. It's crazy that it's only been a few weeks since she first started walking!
  • She learned how to blow kisses.
  • She knows how to dance to music.
  • She knows how to get off of things feet first rather than head first.
  • She got sick with a fever the weekend before Rocky Point. Daycare said it was hand, foot, and mouth disease again, but . . . that assessment is suspect as she didn't really have blisters. I had to get her from daycare early one day because apparently they saw some on her tongue, but I couldn't see anything myself. They suggested I take her to the doctor, but we decided we didn't want to spend $40 just to have the doctor tell us that it's a virus that we just have to let pass.
  • She demolished a cupcake for her birthday.

Bachelorette Season 8 Week 2

Week 2 of Bachelorette and . . . I'm over it. As evidenced by how long it took me to even getting around to writing about Week 2.

I watched it on Hulu and noticed that it was an hour and a half long. Why?! Does the drama not get tiring?!

A co-worker told me about this Lost Angeles blog that does a weekly recap of Bachelor/Bachelorette. Worth a read for people who also enjoy The Soup's recaps of Bachelor/Bachelorette.

Week 2 recap
Week 3 recap

Week 2 recap starts out with the guy saying, "I’d say good morning, but it isn’t. Last night my worst fears were realized. The Bachelorette, much to my prediction, finally jumped the shark." I was like, OMG, jumped the shark is exactly how I felt. And here I thought I was being a tad harsh in my assessment of the show. Apparently not.
