Evie turned 11 months yesterday.

What we found in the high chair when we lifted the padding:
IMG_2836

  • I weaned her at the beginning of the month. My intent was to go for a whole year, but (a) I was starting to dry up and (b) she started being a Bitey McChompers, so then I decided it wasn't worth it to get bitten every time.
  • She's in a biting stage, aside from when nursing. Hope she grows out of it soon.
  • Not only does she understand, "No," but also seems to understand that just because we say No, doesn't mean she actually have to stop doing whatever it is we said No to. More than once, she's just smiled and kept right on doing it.
  • She can stand on her own for a second or two. Longer if she's not paying attention to the fact that she is standing.
  • She sometimes crawls on her hands and feet (instead of hands and knees). Particularly if she is wearing a dress that interferes with her crawling on her hands and knees
  • She knows how to do peek-a-boo to herself now, as well as wave bye-bye to people.
  • We're still working on the sign language for a few simple things - more, milk, and want being the primary ones. She's finally to a point where she can mimic the things that we do (somewhat), so I feel like now is especially the time to try to teach her some sign language.

Mellow Man

Every once in a while, I get the urge to watch this Jack Johnson music video for his song, At Or With Me:
(Just a heads up to those who might care - there's some beeped out language)

It's got Andy Samberg. It's got the rest of the Lonely Island crew. It's hilarious! To understand a big part of why it's funny, it's helpful to have watched this Mellow Show skit from SNL:

I love it when famous people have a sense of humor. "I TELL THE BEST STORIES!"

Evie's Quilt Layout

Greg's Aunt Florence made Evie a quilt and it's awesome, because it's hand-made and personalized. After we got the quilt, we snapped some pictures of Evie on it in the grass so that we could send some pictures to Aunt Florence. This was back in October, but I finally got around to scrapbooking a page on it:

On the page: Hambly overlays; Basic Grey, American Crafts, and October Afternoon patterned papers; and American Crafts Remarks letter stickers.

Earlier in the year, I scored some Remarks letter stickers from a giveaway on the American Crafts blog, so they came in handy for a layout title:

When I picked up the package from the front door, I saw this sticky note on it:

It says "We delivered your package." I don't really get why they have the sticky note - seems like a waste. Clearly, I know that you delivered the package if I'm holding it my hands . . .

CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #49 Card and CKC

This week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge:

CFC49

My card:

IMG_4106_CFC49Card
IMG_4109_CFC49Card

On the card: Hambly overlays, Queen & Co. washi tape (see below), American Crafts patterned paper (the scrap of orange glitter paper), Martha Stewart butterfly punch, Basic Grey and Hero Arts stamps. Kind of a hodge podge of supplies going on!

CKC was two weekends ago and I hit up the vendor fair with Evie in tow.

Purchases compared to previous years was scaled back - one of my "things" of late (I guess you could say "new year's resolutions," but that implies a certain level of commitment that I haven't actually made) is to be better about using the supplies I have rather than continuing to buy supplies. That's not to say that all new supplies are off the table . . . just being bought fewer and further in between.

The few things I got:
  • Thickers, for use in layout titles.
  • Scor-tape, which I've been wanting to try for a while and now that I have, I like it!
  • Washi tapes. So technically, Queen & Co. calls their version of washi tapes "Trendy Tapes," but same thing. They released a bunch of tape designs recently. It was kind of hard to narrow it down to six (show special was for six). Heh.

Letterpress Central Open House

The Paper Studio used to have a physical store that I went to in Tempe, but they moved to an online-only sales format a few years ago. Insert sad face here.

They actually kept their physical space as a letterpress/paper-making studio and recently moved to a larger space, for which they just had an open house yesterday. Their new studio/class space in Chandler is called Letterpress Central.

You got to do a bit of letterpress on the back of a coaster at the open house:

Greg with Evie, tagging along:

I think at some point I'd like to take a letterpress class, just because it looks fun, but I have to finish my other projects first . . . like that pink quilt. Yeesh.

Funny Thing About Cat Food

It's coincidentally the same size as puff cereal. Can you tell where this is going?

We normally keep a fairly close eye on Evie so that she doesn't get into the cat food and water, but tonight she got away from us and managed to spend some quality time with both the cat food and water. All I know is that I came across her crawling out of the guest bath (where we keep the cat food and water) with a trail of cat food behind her. As I processed what I was seeing, she had a piece of cat food in her hand, which she popped into her mouth and ate like it was a sweet potato puff cereal.

Greg says she appeared to be quite happy, having been able to play with the cats' food and water at her leisure and uninterrupted by the likes of mommy and daddy.

Boo Hoo Face Layout on Hambly Facebook Page

I spotted my Boo Hoo Face Layout on the Hambly Facebook page - sweet! It's not THAT big of a deal, but I get excited easily. :)

Hand You Your Crop-a-dile

Earlier in the week, I saw this Ryan Gosling meme (from Handmade Ryan Gosling) on Amy Tangerine's blog and thought it funny enough to mention to Greg, particularly because he and I had a conversation at some point about how I have different scissors for sewing versus paper crafting versus everyday use:

Friday, I was talking to Greg over IM, when he typed this to me and I thought it too funny not to make my own meme of what he said:

RyanGoslingCropADileMeme
(Original Ryan Gosling picture from this post on Nadine Jolie.)

I had to ask him if he just made that up or if he saw it somewhere (answer: he made it up) because I thought for a minute that he looked it up online.

In the same conversation, Greg also informed me that "masculine stamps" (from this post) is an oxymoron. Hmm. Hadn't thought of it that way . . .

Oh Baby, It's a Boy Card

Last minute card for a co-worker's baby shower earlier in the week. She's having another boy, so that called for some masculine stamps and my trusty American Crafts "It's a Boy" stamp!

Baby Blanket Fixed

Several years ago, we got this baby blanket at an arts and craft show. We saved it until Evie came and then we used it for her carseat when the weather started to get colder. Although the original brocade looked really cute, it didn't hold up well, and the brocade squares started to fray and detach from the stitching. I bought some starry blue fabric at JoAnn's to replace the brocade pieces.

IMG_4072_BlueBabyBlanket

I finished fixing it just in time for the summer! Just kidding. But not really. The daycare teachers said that she naps with it during the day. I don't see her being that attached to it at home though, unless she's been without it for so long that she doesn't even remember it . . .

I bought some fabric last weekend to make another mini baby quilt. Since it is only 9 squares with no batting or actual quilting, it comes together relatively quickly on the sewing machine. I haven't decided if I'm going to tackle that next or work on my BIG pink quilt. The big pink quilt is so big it's almost daunting. I need to just do it.

Evie at 10 Months

Evie turned 10 months at the end of March.

IMG_2811

We found all these Goldfish crumbs in Evie's sleeper while changing her after giving her Goldfishes without a bib:
IMG_2800

  • At the beginning of the month, she really got the hang of using her walker to get around.
  • Also at the beginning of the month, she learned how to round the corner of the coffee table while using it as support.
  • She got her teeth brushed for the first time.
  • She protests when something is getting taken away from her.
  • She seems to somewhat understand "No."
  • She unplugs power strips very effectively, so we had to put a plug cover over the outlet next to Greg's computer.
  • She stands at the baby gate and shakes it like she's in jail.
  • She "understand[s] her father is the sexiest man alive." -Greg's contribution to my monthly Evie post
  • I left her alone for a minute to grab my laptop in the other room and when I came back out, I found her PLAYING IN THE CAT WATER. The horrors! At least it wasn't the litter box.
  • She's learned how to climb the stairs all the way to the top by herself.
  • She's getting better at doing the things we do - she'll clap if we clap, she'll shake her head if we shake our head . . . also blow raspberries and click her tongue.
  • We found a spoon in her carseat, probably from a restaurant we went to. Not just at the bottom of her carseat. It had somehow gotten under the padding and the plastic, and it was interfering with the mechanism that hooks into the car seat base. We had to take the padding half off to figure out what was wrong with it and retrieve the spoon.

Paper Feather Garland

I waited until too late in the day to take pictures and the natural lighting wasn't fantastic. Oh well. I made paper feathers using the tutorial I talked about in this post for the Fascination With Feathers Challenge at Moxie Fab World. I covered the paper with Tim Holtz tissue tape and put them on a garland with some different colored tickets.
