Food Truck Friday

Greg and I went to Food Truck Friday last week. We'd heard about it before, but never went since I'm not always downtown during the day.

Garlic tots (from a cart that I don't remember the name of) and a bratwurst with sauteed mushrooms and onions from Short Leash Hot Dogs:

Beef Moki, also from Short Leash Hot Dogs:

Greg also got a frybread something or other that I only got a brief peek at before he snarfed it down, so no pictures of that.

We showed up at 11:30, a bit before the lunch rush. The Short Leash Hot Dogs line was the longest, but I'd heard good things, so I wanted to try it. It was good . . . but $5 and a 15 minute wait good? Not sure . . . The whole food truck experience was worth a try though, if only just because it's not something that we usually do and it was sans baby. I think we may go back again to try some of the other trucks that we didn't get to last week.

Bacon Donut

IMG-20120125-00023

Yes, that is bacon sprinkled on a donut. If you've ever thought to yourself, I love bacon AND donuts, this is the breakfast of choice for you.

We saw these earlier in the week while at Rainbow Donuts. There must be robust enough demand for bacon-sprinkled donuts to warrant making* at least a whole row of them. I was tempted to get one in the two dozen I was getting for a work meeting, but I decided against it. I think people would have been confused about what it was without a similar "BACON DONUT" sign to accompany it.

* "making" makes it sound like it took a lot of effort, but it probably just entails cooking up a few strips of bacon, chopping it up, then sprinkling over a regular donut

BlackBerry Self Pictures

Once in a while, I feel like taking self-pictures on my phone. Not of just me. That's boring. But of me and Evie. And then I often forget about them. I looked through my phone pictures a couple weeks ago and remembered that I took these. Good quality pictures? No. But they made me smile anyway.

Took this one in the hospital after Evie was born:

Took this one not that long ago:

I think some black mary janes would make the skirt even cuter, but I didn't want to get them because she's going to outgrow them in no time (she already outgrew the cute silver sandals that Stephanie gave us at the baby shower).

Evie at 7 Months

Couple weeks behind on getting this up. Evie turned 7 months at the end of December.

Napping on the floor. That's the last time she fit into those little silver sandals.

Giant teddy bear at Costco. Perfect for monthly photo pictures, no? (Not really).

  • Earlier in December, she was getting on her hands and knees and rocking a lot. Later in December, she was so close to crawling - she was scooting and able to get to things on the floor that she wanted.
  • She laughs/smiles/giggles when she sees the cats. Few months ago, she'd see the cats, but she didn't really know what they were or thought that they were funny.
  • She continues to be increasingly vocal with talking noises.
  • She's a big fan of sweet potatoes.
  • Around the middle of December, she was suspected of having hand, foot, and mouth disease, which apparently another baby at daycare had. If that's what it was, it was a pretty mild case because she didn't show all the symptoms, but in any case, the daycare didn't want her going back until her blisters (she didn't have many and none on her face) were gone, so Grandma Karnos watched her for three days during the week.
  • She can kind of stand on her own for a few minutes if we put her on something that she can hang on to. She likes it when we stand her up.
  • "I'm like the Cesar Milan of babies." -Greg, after getting Evie to go to sleep for the night after my two unsuccessful attempts. I contend it's because I wore her out.

"I Moustache You A Question"

"But I'm shaving it for later." (I first saw that on the Google Chat status of a friend, Jessica. I think her boyfriend messaged it to her. Heh).

Emily had a DIY photobooth at her house when we visited her, Dora, and Kimberly a couple of weekends ago, and of course it would have been incomplete without a moustache prop, such as this:

The pictures aren't fantastic, because I couldn't stop myself from laughing while holding Evie and she was trying to lick/eat the moustache prop (because anything that close to her face MUST be food of some sort), but it's still funny. I should've tried out more props!

We Are Young by Fun

Greg showed me this music video yesterday that a friend, Emma, sent him a link to:

I heard it and it was like, nostalgia! The voice was pretty much immediately recognizable to me as the same front man from The Format. In late high school/early college, I was much more into music + concerts than I am now and The Format, a local band, was one of my favorites. Greg and I saw several of their concerts when they played in the Tucson or Phoenix areas.

A co-worker told me a year or two ago that The Format had split and the front man, Nate Ruess, had gone on to join a band call Fun. I didn't put any effort into looking into it, but I liked this song when I heard it last night and it's been stuck in my head. Nate Ruess has a great voice, of which the ultimate test, in my opinion, is being able to sound as good as or better when singing acoustic (such as here and here) or live.

Back when The Format were still together, they played acoustic versions of Movin' Out, Wild World, and I'm Only Sleeping, which I was such a fan of that I burned them onto a CD that perpetually lives in my car. Although I listen to the radio most of the time, I occasionally bust out my Format mix CD and listen to them.

Journaling Stamp Background Card

I like it when an idea turns out exactly as I pictured it in my head. I started out with this stamp:

IMG_3991_JournalingStamp

Turned it on its side, stamped it twice (the second time slightly shifted to one side and with a different color of ink), and ended up with this as the background:

To finish it off:

And since the card has kraft and baker's twine on it, it goes right along with this CAS-ual Fridays challenge:

CFC33

This card went to Greg's cousin, Tamara. She sends us girl clothes every so often for Evie and it's been hugely appreciated! In the most recent package, she sent a cute ballerina-esque skirt and I had Greg take some pictures of Evie in it while we were doing monthly pictures (to be posted once I get some time to sit down and look at them).
