Business Card Mini Book

We got new business cards at work last year, which meant that I was left with nearly a box full of business cards that could no longer be used. Enter this business card mini book tutorial. I saw the tutorial before the whole old business card thing happened, but hadn't gotten a good idea for what to make a mini book about if I did one.

I decided to use lyrics from the Plain White T's song "1, 2, 3, 4" along with the photo booth pictures from this summer:

Turned out pretty well. Put all that Glimmer Mist to good use by inking up the business card backgrounds.

Blog Updates

Remember how I said I was fickle? Yeah. That's why I made my blog background white now. Been that way for a little bit now.

Also:

a) I finally got around to including pictures in my vacation posts:

Columbia River Gorge
Crater Lake
California Coast

And: website photo album

b) I moved my blog pictures over to Flickr a couple months ago. I liked hosting images on our own server, but our server isn't quite as reliable as an online service (it's subject to residential power outages and all).

c) At some point, I'm getting around to adding the last handful of months (January 2007 - May 2007) to Blogger from LiveJournal. Prior to that, there was a six month blogging gap that conveniently divided my "college blogging years" with my "adult blogging years." Don't get confused if you see old posts show up as new posts. FYI. (I know that transferring blog posts isn't something I have to do, but I'm weird like that and things have to be consistent, or else it bothers me).

Chicken Pot Pie

"Chicken pot chicken pot chicken pot pieeeeee"
- from Just Shoot Me, episode "Slow Donnie"

We had some airline miles that were expiring and opted to redeem those miles for some magazine subscriptions, including Martha Stewart's Everyday Food. There was a chicken pot pie recipe in the October issue that we tried out when we had my dad and brother over for dinner yesterday and it turned out quite well. I was pretty impressed with (a) the recipe and (b) myself. Greg helped too, of course. We modified the recipe a bit by adding potatoes, which worked out tastily.

(This was after my brother had taken a bite. I'd forgotten to take a picture before we started eating).

Based on this experience, I say we need to try out some other recipes. I feel like the recipes from Everyday Food are more attainable than the ones I've been seeing in Bon Appetit, which often require ingredients that we don't typically have on hand since I'm not a serious cook or even a foodie.

Lucy's Cards Challenge 1

Made a card using the colors from this challenge:

LucysCardsChallenge1Color

I wanted to make a card using pink and blue a little while ago (based on cards that I'd seen on Lucy's Cards), but Greg poo poo'd that color combination. I had a baby card in mind and Greg thought it would be too ambiguous a color combination for a girl or boy card. Still wanted to make a pink and blue baby card though, so here we go:

Cesar Chavez Park Sunset Layout

Layout of sunset pictures at Cesar Chavez Park from this post:

IMG_2846_CesarChavezSunsetLayout

In other news, I found out last week I passed the Financial section of the CPA exam. Woo hoo! That section was intense. Pretty sure I didn't do so hot on the simulations, especially since I was making up numbers to put in as I was running out of time. 2 sections down. 1 awaiting results. And 1 more to take when I'm done with classes. So close to the end!

Two Birds on Branch Cards

Made a set of cards with this new stamp Greg got me.

IMG_2813_GlimmerMistBirdsBranches

Haven't yet decided if I'm going to put a sentiment on it or what it would be if I were to.

Side note. This is how crazy I am about school - I'm already feeling anxiety over how well I'll do in class and we haven't even had any graded assignments yet. Sigh.

Fabric Button Magnets

Greg had a big get-together (boys only) at our house Friday night, so Mandy offered to let me craft it up with her that night. She showed me how to make these sweet fabric button magnets:

The little birdie on the blue button is a rub-on. I'm a fan - they were super easy to do and look so cute!

Greg, Craig, Same Difference

Greg (on IM): I just saw a headline
"Top White House laywer Greg Craig quitting"
what an unfortunate name
what were his parents thinking

Example of why Greg thinks it's unfortunate that the guy's name is "Greg Craig":

Awesome.

KaMos happens a lot too. That's why I try to purposely separate "Kar" from "nos" when I have to write out my name on a form or something.

Cupcake Layout

Mmmm cupcakes.

IMG_2827_CupcakeLayout

Couldn't decide what to do about the journaling for a while. When that happens, which is often, the mostly-complete layout sits on my shelf for several months until I get an idea.

Have to clean tonight for people coming over tomorrow. Bleh to cleaning.

Finally put the last touches on my layout about The Hunt!

It has a hidden insert with more pictures and journaling:

Looking forward to the weekend. Lots of craftiness going on.

Monochromatic Card Exchange

Went to another card exchange last Friday and the theme was monochromatic (everyone was assigned a different color). I had yellow:

Photo collage of the other cards:

ROYGBIV makes me happy (although some colors don't fit into ROYGBIV that easily, like brown, white, gold, and silver). I organized my closet by color last year and afterwards, I wondered why it took me so long to do it because it was pretty awesome. I noticed that the majority of my shirts are black or blue, so I've been making an effort to branch out color-wise. For clothes and for crafts.

College is for Studying

CIMG0015_ParkedCar

Really? Really? I know that Greg is parked really far to the right and I know that the white SUV is parked really far to the left, but in case Mr. Saturn Vue in the middle didn't notice, he didn't park in a real parking spot. Two halves of different parking spots don't make a whole.

We had a belated birthday dinner with my mom and brother on Saturday night. Afterwards, I wanted to check out Hobby Lobby, which just opened in Ahwatukee. (48th Street and Ray is like a mecca of craftiness. There is Hobby Lobby on the NW corner, Michael's on the NE corner, and JoAnn on the SE corner. If someone opens a scrapbook store on the remaining corner, we are moving to Ahwatukee).

On the way there, we were talking about college when my mom said, "Most people go to college to study, right?" Hilarity ensued. People studying in college? Bahahahahaha. Okay, just kidding. People do study in college. But there is also lots of partying in college, which is widely accepted in our culture. This is in contrast to my mom's experience having grown up in a culture where not only is college largely about studying, but so is middle school (to test into a good high school) and high school (to test into a good college and major). But it was still pretty dang funny. My Mom is a Fob-worthy.

Birthday Laundry and Apple Tart

Greg: Don't make me do my laundry on my birthday!
Me: Don't make me do your laundry on my birthday!

(We have the same birthday).

Greg's friend/Halo buddy/co-worker David and his wife, Mandy, stopped by last night with their kids.

a. The kids are such cuties.
b. They came with a birthday apple tart! I'm not normally a fan of pie or pie-like desserts (Gasp! So un-American!), but this was pretty tasty. It's hard to go wrong with cream cheese in a dessert.

Whitewash Torn Paper Birthday Card

I took a day off on Friday and it was delicious, especially after 1+ month of working on a project that required some longer hours than normal. I studied. I chilled. I crafted. I still did a little bit of work, but overall, it was nice.

I really liked this card I saw online and used its basic design to come up with this birthday card for Greg's sister:

IMG_2729_TornPaperBdayCard

Used some different colors of Whitewash cardstock from Core'dinations for the torn paper. I like how it turned out - pretty colors!
