Blue Damask Congrats Card

Wedding card for a friend:

IMG_2651_BlueDamaskCongratsCard

I've been into damask and rhinestones lately. I stamped a repeating damask design with VersaMark ink in the background, the effect of which I liked enough to also do on this card.

Names on Food

Greg saw:

Greg said:

"Oh, awkward. I was about to eat that. I didn't realize we were putting our names on food now." (He wasn't really about to eat it).

Greg did:

I only labeled my food because I was putting it in the communal fridge at work, but then ended up just bringing it back home. Shoot, man, shoot. But it still made me laugh.

Last weekend, Greg also said to me, "I don't hate dogs like you hate babies, but they're not my favorite." Heh! I don't hate babies. And I certainly don't eat them, though Greg has told Stephanie (albeit jokingly) I do. Make that "shoot, man, shoot" times 10.

Embellish the Cure Color Challenge with Bling

Made a card for this Embellish Magazine color challenge:

This was one of those cards where I was feeling pretty meh about it, but it ended up turning out pretty good. Layering is a good solution for covering mistakes!

Woefully Out of Shape

I'm woefully out of shape and I have only myself to blame. We went hiking this morning on South Mountain and I was huffing and puffing. Greg called me a weenie. I didn't disagree. My excuse in recent years is that I'm "busy" with school, but we all know that I make time for crafts, so that's not really true. While I'm self-motivated to do certain things, exercising is not one of those things. At some point, I'm just going to have to suck it up and exercise.

Also on the hike this morning, we were literally two minutes from the end of the trail when I took a little tumble on some loose rocks. It resulted in scratches and bruises in about five different places on the left side of my body. Boo hoo. (It kind of looks like I'm crying in this picture . . . I'm not. And don't let Greg tell you otherwise).

At least my face was spared.

Blue Skies Fleece Shapes Card

Went to CKC in Glendale a few weeks ago with Cindy (from work) and her sister, Kim. Not as crowded as it has been in the past. I got some new goodies to play with, including some American Crafts fleece shapes, SEI chalk inks, and birdie brads, with which I made this card:

"Blank" Mini Book

I finished everything but the cover on this mini book for Greg several months ago. I sat on it for a while because I couldn't decide how to do the cover, but finally finished it on Friday night.

BlankMiniBookCollage

Chose to use some extra sheets of black felt I had for the covers after seeing this felt-covered mini book by Ali Edwards.

Filled the pages with "You're the BLANK to my BLANK" phrases based on these letterpressed cards by Elise Blaha.

Another item for Greg's note box!

"Are you a fan of delicious flavor?"

- Shawn Spencer from Psych, season 2, episode "Psy vs. Psy"

Last weekend was a good weekend.

It was a busy week at work, topped off with a section of the CPA exam. I was really looking forward to chillaxin' on Friday. I got home to find that Greg had gone home early to make me dinner. I called him earlier in the afternoon and he rushed off the phone saying he was "busy" at "work." That sneaky boy. He said he'd been planning it since last Monday. He even hid groceries in plain sight in the bottom drawer of the fridge (that's a pretty good sign that me ≠ cook).

[Aside]: I'm terrible at surprises for Greg. I can barely contain my excitement and usually end up spilling the beans to Greg because I'm too excited. In contrast, Greg is like a master of surprises. He carefully crafts his plans. He bides his time. He conspires with friends/co-workers. I usually show up being all like, wha?

Greg made:
  • Spinach salad with strawberries, walnuts, and poppy seed dressing
  • Garlic cheese breadsticks made from scratch
  • Lasagna (We ended up with a ton of leftovers, which means lasagna for lunch! Every day!)

LasagnaDinnerCollage

The next morning, Greg made me breakfast in bed - scrambled eggs with turkey, onions, spinach, and cheese served on biscuits.

There was lots of quality hang out time this weekend. After a busy few weeks, I felt like I missed my husband even though I'd seen him every day, so this weekend was nice to just veg out with Greg.

[Edit]: I forgot to mention that Greg, in addition to making dinner last Friday, ALSO baked a batch of peanut butter/chocolate chip/oatmeal cookies that were pretty yummy. We got the recipe from a friend and it was a large recipe - we baked the other half of the batch on Sunday.
