Color Inspiration #50 Card

These colors are a little outside my usual comfort zone. They're very primary . . .

042509kwernerCI50

Made a baby card, which I can foresee using in the near future since we know some peeps who are having babies this year:

IMG_2609_KwernerCI50BabyCard

  • I didn't have any white buttons (I feel that I have a button shortage, but I think Greg may think I'm ridiculous because it's almost like I'm complaining that I don't have enough craft stuff, which I actually have plenty of), so I stamped some little white circles on white vellum and added Glossy Accents on top
  • I question whether it was a good idea to put yellow in the middle because the white ink doesn't really stand out as much on it
  • I'm wondering how I can cleanly emboss without having particles of powder left behind, because I'm kind of a perfectionist and it bothers me

Bridal Shower Card

Went to a bridal shower for a co-worker earlier in the week. I kind of forgot about it until the day before, so I made a card the night before with pink cardstock and black and gold Glimmer Mist (her wedding colors, sort of):

After finishing the card, I questioned whether it was a good idea to use black Glimmer Mist when I had to show up at work the next morning, presumably with clean hands. It turned out all right with some scrubbing.

In unrelated news . . .

Snippet of a conversation between me and Greg:

Me: I just had a milkshake.
Greg: Who did it bring to the yard?

On the Subject of Cupcakes

Greg, my brother, and I went to Joe's Farm Grill for lunch last Sunday with my dad. Next to Joe's Farm Grill is The Coffee Shop. Greg and I stopped in to see what it was all about and I saw that they had yummy looking cupcakes, such as red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and glittery sprinkles. So I got one. And I ate it. And it was delicious.

I already had a hankering for cupcakes after seeing an alumni profile in Eller's Progress magazine. I'd heard of Sprinkles Cupcakes before (I think I remember Lee Anne mentioning it?), but I didn't realize an Eller grad started it. Awesome! Greg and I are going to try it out next time we are in the Fashion Square area.

"It's the Weekend, Party Party Party"

- Montage (Strong Bad Email #117), HomestarRunner.com

Except it's not really the weekend . . . anymore. Or yet. However you look at it.

Went to CKC-Mesa last weekend with Stephanie, Cindy, and Cindy's daughter, Alexis. We took a class that - we found out when we arrived - was taught by Elizabeth Kartchner, which probably doesn't mean anything to most normal people, but Stephanie draws a pretty good analogy here.

Made this mini album in class (as yet unfinished and probably will be that way for a while):

PeekIntoMyWeekAlbumCollage

The mini album was supposed to be "A Peek into My Week" theme, but I feel like a normal week for me is pretty uneventful, so I purposefully left off the title and rub ons. Maybe I'll use it for a vacation or something.

This weekend: work training Friday and Saturday (meh). But, a crafty get together is tentatively being coordinated for Friday night, so that will be fun.

Also, I've been watching these Photoshop Elements tutorials on Two Peas in a Bucket and have been excited at the new things I'm learning. Sweet!

The Hunt

I got home from work yesterday and found this sitting on the tile in front of the door:

The hunt is on!

I grabbed my camera as soon as I realized what was going on and snapped pictures of everything as I found them.

The great room:

The master bedroom:

Everywhere else:

Along with the roses, here's what I ended up with:

Greg's surprise at the end - as if everything I already found wasn't enough - was that he pre-ordered the first season of True Blood (I wanted to watch it when it aired, but it's only on HBO, which we don't order).

Greg's so good to me . . . To Greg: I love you!

[Edit]: I didn't really specify what the bottles were - Glimmer Mist.

Blog Background Tweak

Played around with Photoshop Elements (thanks Greg!) and some digital scrapbooking kits to tweak my blog background:

CreativeBrownBlueBackgroundSmall

Nothing fancy, but I like it.

White flower image is from the Creative Brown template from Pyzam. Blue ric rac is from the Happy Go Lucky digital scrapbooking kit from Shabby Princess.

Foodie Day

It was raining yesterday morning, so we nixed the hiking plans (not all that sad about it, to be honest). Instead, we went with Lee Anne to:

1) Rainbow Donuts for breakfast.

2) The Downtown Phoenix Public Market. Most of the food vendors had samples, so that was sweet. We got some handmade pasta and salsa (we tried the pineapple habanero salsa and it was awesome).

3) Have hot chocolate/coffee/tea at Lux while waiting for lunch. Greg took these pictures in a little spot behind the Lux/Pane Bianco building:

4) Eat lunch at Pane Bianco, next door to Lux. I split a mozzarella, tomato, and basil sandwich with Lee Anne.

We also went to Joe's Farm Grill for dinner with my mom and brother.

It was featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives! We tried the Fontina burger, the onion rings, and the BBQ chicken pizza. Greg says the hot dog was really good too.

Lovebirds Wedding Card

Greg's cousin got married recently and this is the card I made for the occasion:

IMG_2074_LovebirdsWeddingCard

Tri-fold card. Front embossed with the Cuttlebug Birds and Swirls folder. I didn't have gold paper, so I used gold embossing powder to make my own. Also, I love these Technique Tuesday frames for their shape. I've used them as stencils all over the place, including on this card.

On the agenda for tomorrow - hiking Camelback Mountain. I'll readily admit that I'm not in the best physical shape. Lee Anne used the words "probably a good deal more rigorous than South Mountain" to describe the Camelback Mountain hike, so we'll see how it goes.

Purple and Yellow Feel the Joy Card

The purple and yellow printed ribbon (bottom right) inspired the colors of this card:

IMG_2184_PurpleYellowFeelTheJoyCard

In my head, I also have visions of a purple and yellow scrapbooking page, the subject of which has yet to be determined. Sometimes I find it hard to tackle a whole 12 x 12 page versus a little 4.25 x 5.5 card.

I did end up getting the Feel the Joy stamp from Unity Stamp Company. I had expected the yellow chalk ink to show up just a tad better on the purple, but oh well.

To hubby Greg: It's not brown and I bought a 100-sheet pack, so I'm going to use it, dang it!

Pink and Blue Baby Card

There is an upcoming baby shower for a coworker, so I was motivated to make this card:

IMG_2180_PinkBlueBabyCard

I was thinking of making another baby card, but I don't know if the friend I have in mind is having a boy or girl and I couldn't bring myself to make the card without knowing.

Color Inspiration #48 Card

I really liked the color combination of this Color Inspiration on Kristina Werner's blog:

040309kwernerCI48

I've used these colors a lot, such as on this wedding card book I put together (the post for which I have yet to transfer over from LiveJournal, but it's on my list of things to do).

Here's my card:

IMG_2193_KwernerCI48CloseUp

[Edit at 4:19 PM]: Hmm. I think my blue may be a little lighter than "baja breeze," but since I don't use Stampin' Up supplies, it'll have to do . . .

Narwhals Are For Real?

So I was watching this video by Kristina Werner when she pointed out the narwhal on this stamp set:

LifeAtThePoleStampSet
Life at the Pole set by Sassafras Lass, from Two Peas in a Bucket

For whatever reason, I had gotten it in my head that narwhals were make-believe creatures, kind of like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster. Not true. Apparently, narwhals are real. I consider myself schooled.

At first, I was researching narwhals on Wikipedia, but then I decided I needed a more reputable source. Enter the narwhal profile by National Geographic.

The narwhal in the stamp set is pretty cute.

Mini Embellished Note Card

I bought these cute mini note cards + envelopes a while ago (I think from Michael's $1 section) and just finally used one yesterday. Sometimes if I don't see it, I don't remember that I have it. For size reference, the stamp in the background, Dream Text stamp by Stampendous, is 3.75" by 5".

IMG_2166_BlankMiniNoteCard

I embellished the card with some paper scraps, a paper flower, a colored brad, and a borrowed-from-Stephanie scallop punch:

IMG_2169_EmbellishMiniNoteCard

I wrote Greg a little note inside and tucked it into his agenda after he went to bed. Not super fancy, but cute for a note to Greg.
