Scrapbook Stores are Dropping Like Flies

So Saturday night, I was perusing my blogs when, for the first time in about three months, Annalis Scraptique makes a post! But, it's a very mysterious post, promising more information by Tuesday. What's that about?

Come Tuesday, there's a post about a sale. Hmm. Okay. I'm liking the sound of that. But I'm too busy to go shopping for scrapbooking stuff (and I'm using my supplies at an even slower rate than before - instead of two months to finish a page, it's more like four months!). Wednesday rolls around and there's another post about a sale. And fixtures. For sale. Eh? Fixtures for sale? Wait a minute . . . that sounds like . . . THE STORE IS CLOSING.

So I pick up the phone and dial the store. "So . . . are you guys closing the store? Oh, you are? Oh . . . um . . . okay." Bummer. Looks like another scrapbook store has bitten the dust. First, it was Lucky 15. Then, it was Recollections. And now, my Ahwatukee scrapbook store?! Woe is me.

Now I'll have to make the trek over to the East Valley if I want to get any fancy scrapbook supplies not found at Michael's or Jo Ann's. In the meantime, I'll need to finagle a visit over to Annalis Scraptique tomorrow!

Tempe Town Lake at Night

Last night, Greg and I went to Farrelli's Cinema Supper Club in Scottsdale with Linda and Sloan to see August Rush.

My thoughts:
Cinema Supper Club - Kind of an interesting concept
"Supper" part of the Cinema Supper Club - Not wowed by it in terms of taste or price
"Cinema" part of the Cinema Supper Club - August Rush was a pretty good movie. I kind of wanted to see it when it first came out, but Greg and I don't go to the movies very often

After the dinner + movie, Greg and I tooled around Tempe for a bit, including at Tempe Marketplace and Tempe Town Lake. We drove down closer to the lake where Greg experimented with his new equipment taking some night shots:

(Greg informs me that the pictures look grainier because I didn't bother to resize them before posting).

The choppy waters made for interesting reflections of the lights on the bridge

The calmer waters gave better reflections of the bridge and buildings

Me at Target

"I didn't come here to shop, I came here to buy stuff."

What is that? "Shopping" and "buying stuff" are the same, you say? I beg to differ. "Shopping" is an enjoyable pastime. "Buying stuff" is a chore.

On Wednesday, Greg and I went to Target to run an errand (i.e., buy household items, thus a chore). Target, however, carries a wide variety of products, including (but not limited to): scrapbooking, stationery, clothing, shoes, furniture, kitchen accessories, bath accessories, home accents, office supplies, AND . . . a dollar aisle. Well, I have a tendency to get distracted at Target (and who doesn't?), so Greg was making comments about me not going off and looking at other things when the purpose of going into Target was to get three very specific things. My response to him was, "Pshaw! I didn't come here to shop, I came here to buy stuff." Then we both started to laugh after I realized what I had just said. To Greg, shopping is synonymous with buying stuff. To me, there is a distinction. I don't go out with friends to buy stuff. That would be boring. I go out with friends to shop. Shopping is an experience that transcends buying stuff. Greg says it's a girl thing.
