August Creating Keepsakes

I'm reading through August's issue of Creating Keepsakes (I'm so tempted to subscribe!) and I'm noticing that sometimes, I have a hard time telling where advertisements end and articles begin. Is this a good or bad thing? Hmm . . . I'm leaning towards good. I'm being sucked into the marketing . . . and I like it!

East Coast Business Travels

In this last week, I:

1. Met up with Greg in Washington, DC on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Traipsed around DC visiting monuments, museums, and the IRS.

2. Went to Philadelphia and Fort Myers (FL) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for a business trip. (I managed to finagle a vacation out to the East coast since I was already going to be there for work).

3. Spent tonight being crafty instead of homework-y:

Maybe I shouldn't post pictures of the cards I make until after I use them . . . Okay, here's the plan: act surprised if you get one.

Postcard Display

It feels so good to be done with class!

I'm looking forward to seeing Hairspray. I remember seeing the original with Ricki Lake on TV when I was younger and I actually really liked it. Maybe some day Greg and I will actually see the play too . . .

I'm also excited to see and read Harry Potter, although there will be no refreshing of my memory by re-reading the 6th book. I'll probably wait and see if someone in Greg's family gets the book and read it after the hype has settled some.

So I have this big box of postcards, which I like to collect when I go to new places or when people I know go to new places. I was thinking while on vacation a couple weeks ago that I'd like to do something with them besides keep them in a box. I saw these photo racks at Pottery Barn that look like they'd be a nice way to display postcards:

(The one on the right appears to be sold out. Last I saw, it was on sale).

I'm reluctant to really buy anything postcard rack-ish though because it has limited uses. What would I do with it once I got tired of it?

Also, LiveJournal's picture insert tool is being weird and ghetto. I had to do the HTML by hand. Boo.

Newly-acquired Paper

Organized newly-acquired paper tonight (not the only thing I did - worked on some homework problems and took a couple naps too):

My paper should be honored. I don't even organize my clothes so faithfully. Also, all the colors make me happy.

I also recently came into possession (by way of Stephanie) three halves each of the Luxury, East Asian, and Summer packs from Jo Ann's:

I don't think I'll be able to carry around all my paper anymore.

I'm feeling the late night munchies coming on.

Accounting Final and Scrapbooking

I've got my Accounting final coming up on Wednesday and yet I'm up at 3:00 in the morning scrapbooking, not studying. To be fair, I read a chapter earlier, but it took me longer than normal because I was so distracted with thoughts of scrapbooking.

I finished two scrapbook pages. I actually started with the Oregon honeymoon roadtrip pages first and got a little burnt out on the heavy-on-the-pictures-low-on-the-design result that I was getting. The Grand Teton/Yellowstone pages are minimal - it almost looks like I didn't finish the pages.

Putting the finished pages in my album, I thought to myself that I sometimes don't even want to look at the pages I did because I'll start to be nitpicky and critical about them. I've started to journal by hand more out of laziness and the result is crooked lines and varying writing sizes. It irks me when I look at it . . . so I just shouldn't look at it.

While I was scrapbooking, I went back and forth between my pages and these: Ali Edwards's column for Creating KeepsakesStudio A. She's got lots of examples in each column, which is what I like to look at for inspiration.

Hand-made Thank You Card

Greg and I got this card last week from one of his co-worker's (his wife made it) and I thought it was nice. I like hand-made cards:

Now that I work in an office environment, I'm finding it a lot easier to wear nice clothes and heels compared to when I was in high school or college, and I'm liking it. But then, every day I feel like I have nothing to wear. Maybe I'm developing a shopping addiction now that I actually have the means to fulfill it.

Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart?

Some highlights from our trip last week to San Jose!

Greg and I visited this 7-Eleven in Mountain View:

that was converted into this:

There was a line (though a short one) to get in. Once I read online that there was a Kwik-E-Mart in Mountain View though, I told Greg we had to stop by since we were going to be in the area. I wanted to get some Buzz Cola or Krusty-O's for my brother, but they apparently sold out of that. I did, however, enjoy a Squishee:

Earlier that day, Greg and I went to a clay and glass arts show with Greg's aunt, Kris, where we got these coasters (cute!):

(Lighting is not the best, I know).

Greg's aunt also gave us this vase:

We had a good time in San Jose. We saw Greg's cousin on Fourth of July and cooked shish kabobs, went out to some good restaurants with Greg's aunt, saw Ratatouille, had lunch with an old professor from UA, went into San Francisco and shopped . . . I still had to work on homework, but I took some liberties (like taking naps. Tee hee).

Crop-A-Dile

My new favorite tool:

Crop-A-Dile from We R Memory Keepers

IMG_7963_New

(Look at some of the fun things you can do with it!)

And what I made/finished with it:

(Perhaps a little overboard with the Dots Seal Stamp from 7gypsies, but I was excited to use it! In retrospect, probably just one in the middle behind the "{thank you}" would've looked pretty good too).

Maybe I'm not so sad about the Japanese screw hole punch after all.
