Golf Outing

Went a-golfing today for work (sort of) at the Grayhawk Golf Club. Actually, it was a golf outing for a client and since I was not staffed on any other clients that day (or this week, for that matter), a day of golfing was to be had.

The last time I went golfing was two summers ago when I was intern. It was stinkin' hot and I sucked. This time it was less stinkin' hot, but I still sucked. Nevertheless, I scored two $25 gift cards - one for being on the team with the worst/highest score and one for getting the longest women's drive.

I don't know how I managed the longest women's drive, but I suspect that it's because no one else bothered to write their name down on the score sheet next to the hole. Also, the odds were likely in my favor because a) there weren't that many women and b) many of them, including me, probably weren't that great at golf (although some of them may have been better than me).

Santa Fe Road Trip

Back from Santa Fe! Greg and I spent Memorial Day weekend with Stephanie (who I work with) and her husband, Julio, roadtripping to Chaco Canyon, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe.

Our first stop on the roadtrip (side question: is "roadtrip" supposed to be one or two words?) was Chaco Canyon (technically Chaco Culture National Historical Park), where there different sites with ruins that we visited. Pueblo Bonita is one of the most famous sites at the park:

This is me curiously looking into a two story portion of the ruin that was still relatively intact. This is also Greg looking at anything but ruins.

Our second stop was in Albuquerque where we tried to "secret eat" Greg's parents' bar. They checked our IDs at the door, however, so I don't know if our cover was blown or not. Albuquerque was only meant to be a few hours though.

Our final destination was Santa Fe where we walked around downtown, visited some historic churches around there, and partook in some arts and crafts shows going on:

The "oldest house" was right next door to the church, but it was closed. Not that I paid the $1.00 admission to get into the church anyway.

It was a short, fast trip, but Stephanie and Julio were fun to roadtrip with.

Back to School

Went to ASU this afternoon to register for a summer class. Intermediate Financial Accounting. I decided to go back to school for an Accounting Master's. I'll be taking Accounting upper division pre-requisite courses for the next year, one at a time, and hopefully apply and enter the Master's program in Fall 2008. I'll be taking a leave of absence for that 10 months.

My blogging and crafting will have to go on hiatus while I'm in school (I think semi-hiatus has already started - summer classes start May 29th).

I'm excited to get my Master's, but not necessarily excited about the schoolwork. I'll be able to sit for my CPA when I'm done with the Master's, which will be so good, especially given the field I work in. It's a pretty sizable financial investment though . . . just the one summer class (3 credits) will be about $1,000 with textbooks figured in. Bummer. And I have three more of them to take. And then comes the full time student gig.

I'm hoping to get a TA position for not only the financial help it will be, but also because while I was in high school and undergrad, being a TA wasn't as high on my list of things to do as taking elective courses that I was interested in or doing a minor (history and science, anyone?).

The Golden Compass Movie

I'm looking forward to seeing how The Golden Compass turns out. (It's got Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig!)

What I don't know is if they will try to combine story lines from The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass into this movie, in which case, I'm going to have to say no to that idea. Too many books-turned-movies have been ruined by being unfaithful to the original story.

Jury Duty

The inevitable has happened . . . I have been called to jury duty. How have I gone these however many years that I've been a licensed driver and registered voter without being summoned for jury duty? I don't know. It's a bummer though since I will have to miss work.

Bandeau Tops

What is the appeal of bandeau swim suit tops? I would venture to say that out of all possible styles of swim suit tops, bandeau tops are one of (if not the most) unflattering. They are no good because they cause/allow/give the appearance of sagging.

I will say that smaller fares better on the "sag-o-meter." But still no good.

New House Panoramas

I am looking forward to our house. A couple of reasons:
(I had to piece the photos together. There's probably a panoramic picture function on my camera, but eh).

Target, are you trying to pull a fast one on me? 'Cause I'm not buying it.

They have a strange practice at Target. Sometimes, you'll come across an item that has a bright yellow "Price Cut" price tag next to it advertising, of course, a price cut. These stickers, for instance, have been "price cut" from $3.29 to $2.99.

What a deal, right? Yet when I lift up the "Price Cut" tag, what's this I see? Regular price $2.99? What am I? An idiot?

P5080005

Nice try, Target. I like you, but you treat me like I'm stupid. Maybe if you had removed the original price tag, your tricky trick would have worked.

Brocade Belt and Flower Pens

I made this blue bamboo brocade belt earlier in the week and when I finished, I struggled to think of when I would actually wear it. I've accepted that I probably couldn't pull it off on a casual level, but I thought of how to wear it out on a dressier level (and it got me excited):

(Greg polluted my shot on the right with his foot. Boo.)

I finally found some heavy-duty enough cutters to cut through the wire in my flower stems. I finished my craftiness that's been on hold because of the lack of adequate cutters: (They're pen flowers)

Cardi-Wrap?

I'm really liking this cardi-wrap project posted on the Sew Stylish website: (Originally from Threads)

CardiWrapExamples

It's been added to my sewing project queue. It might even be elevated in priority. And I need to start reading the Sew Stylish blog more.

Work Stress

Work stresses me out sometimes and it's not even because of the work itself.
