Fashion Blogs

I go through phases of being way into scrapbooking and then way into clothes/shopping/fashion. I'm currently in a fashion blog reading blitz, which was spurred by my visiting this blog: Frugal Fashionista.

Found a few others that I liked (enough):
Budget Chic!
Closet Therapy
Painfully Hip
Fashion Under $100 (Added 4/8/2007)
LookBook (Added 4/8/2007)
Looks to Love (Added 4/8/2007)
Shopaholics Anonymous (Added 4/8/2007)
Shopalicious (Added 4/8/2007)
Awesome (Added 4/8/2007 - Not strictly a fashion blog, but has interesting posts)

Can't say I'm as fond of the couture/designer blogs because I'm not a big fan of looking at clothes that I (a) can't buy because they are ridiculously expensive or (b) won't buy because they are ridiculously expensive. Plus, some of the things that designers come up with are crazy, ugly, or both (crugly?). The words "haute" and "couture" do not prettify ugly fashion.

Greg told me he thinks I bought/have too many pairs of jeans. Jeans are a wardrobe staple! Staple! Not only that, the number of pairs of jeans that I possess is probably NOTHING compared to serious shoppers. Seriously

I'm trying to build a case that tall stiletto heel boots are a wardrobe staple too.

Flowers and Lucky 15 Surprise

Sometimes, I realize that I probably don't know just how lucky I am to end up with Greg. I'm amazed and speechless at the things Greg will do for me for no apparent reason except that he knows it'll make me happy.

Today, Greg came home with these:

and this:

He also told me that he made a stop at Banana Republic to see if he could get me this dress I've been coveting in my size (but they were out). I was so touched that he went out of his way to do all these nice things for me (and surprise me with them) . . . I love Greg so much!

Gym Class Heroes

I'm feeling quite accomplished . . . I finished my previous journal posts!

I'm kind of digging this band called Gym Class Heroes. They're more hip-hoppy/rap-ish, but I'm liking the couple songs I've heard so far. For some reason, I had this perception that Fueled By Ramen tended to have more alternative/punk/rock/emo-type bands, but that doesn't seem like the case since Gym Class Heroes doesn't really fit that mold. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though . . . "independent" isn't genre-specific.

I think my optometrist looks like a soap opera doctor.

Stranded in Boston

It's so good to be home! Although since I've been back, I've been feeling like my routine is out of whack.

I got back into Phoenix yesterday morning about 9:30 Phoenix time. Our flight left Boston at about 6:30 am (3:30 am Phoenix time), we left for the airport about 5:00 am (2:00 am Phoenix time), and I got up to get ready at 4:00 am (1:00 am Phoenix time). Just the thought of it is crazy. I tried to sleep the whole 5.5 hours or so back to Phoenix, but it still felt like a long and slow flight.

Despite being stranded in Boston over the weekend, I actually had a pretty good time. We were in downtown Boston, so that's a pretty happenin' place to be. My aunt recommended a good dim sum place in Chinatown, so on Saturday, my two coworkers and I walked there for lunch. It was pretty good dim sum - must be a popular place too, because it was crowded. We spent Saturday shopping around the downtown area. Saturday night, I went out with one of my coworkers (my manager, rather) to a place called Pho Republique. Mmmm . . . Vietnamese noodle soup. Pricey though . . . $16 for noodle soup?!

On Sunday, there was more shopping to be had since our hotel was connected to two malls (we didn't even have to go outside!). My manager went into the Coach store and apparently has a weakness for Coach, because she dropped a good amount on a new bag. I always have sticker shock at the price of Coach and other similar designer handbags. Sunday afternoon/night, I saw my aunt, uncle, and cousin and actually had a pretty good time. Had some good conversation with my cousin, which I can't say I've ever done before. Had dinner with the three of them before they dropped me off at the hotel.

I've been catching up on all my scrapbooking blogs today. I really like reading them because they inspire/motivate me to work on my own scrapbook. :)

Work Trip to Maine

Do you ever ask yourself, How did I ever live without Internet? That's the question I've been asking myself the last ten days when the hotel we were staying at in Bethel, Maine had no Internet. It's been a while since I've posted (basically since I left for this business trip). Let's recap my trip:

Wednesday 3/7:
Flew out to Boston and drove to Bethel.

Thursday 3/8 and Friday 3/9:
Worked.

Saturday 3/10 and Sunday 3/11:
Skied at Sunday River Ski Resort and hung out in the hotel room. See me in all of my ski attire glory?

P3100014V

This was actually the first time I've been skiing since I tore my ACL while at Brian Head in Utah. I took a skiing lesson, but I impressed myself with how not terrible I was going down some green runs prior to the lesson. Brandi, my coworker, had never skied prior to Sunday River, but she did pretty well for it being her first time. I was worried that my right knee would end up more sore than the other after skiing the whole day Saturday, but actually, it wasn't. I also fell and/or wiped out less than a handful of times, which in my view, is quite a feat. The snow on Saturday was fantastic - soft and fairly fresh snow (or at least it was cold enough to preserve the snow). It rained a bit Saturday afternoon and the day was warm, so come Sunday morning when Brandi and I went skiing, the snow was kind of hard and icy. After one run, we decided we didn't like the snow and spent the rest of the day bumming it up in the hotel room. At least that's what I did.

Monday 3/12, Tuesday 3/13, and Wednesday 3/14:
Worked.

Thursday 3/15:
Worked . . . and did some craftiness! How did I do craftiness while on a business trip in small-town Bethel, you ask? Well, there was a guy who worked at the client whose wife is apparently big into scrapbooking and stamping. At some point earlier in the trip, we were chatting with him about scrapbooking (my manager on the client scrapbooks too) and Thursday morning he comes into the conference room we're working in and invites us to his house for some scrapbooking with his wife. Unbelievably nice people (both of them) and needless to say, I was so excited. She's got so many supplies . . . I can only hope to acquire half of what she had. She had shelves full of paper and stamp sets, racks of embellishments, baskets full of ribbon . . . I should have taken pictures. We ended up making some little 4x4 accordion mini-albums (!!!!!):

It's not complete yet though.

Friday 3/16:
Worked a half day. Left Bethel at about 11:30 am to drive to the Boston airport. Arrived at the Boston airport at about 3:30 pm in the midst of a snow storm. Spent the next 5 hours at the airport hoping that the Phoenix flight would only be delayed, but not canceled. Phoenix flight was canceled, along with a majority of other flights in to and out of Boston. Translation: I'm stranded in Boston until Monday morning when we fly out at about 6:20 am. Saturday flights were canceled and Sunday flights are scarce.

So now I'm sitting in the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Boston, grateful that I at least have Internet access in the hotel room. I've been feeling so isolated without it this past week and a half (after leaving work, that is). I'd basically finish work, eat dinner, then go back to my hotel room to watch TV.

I called up my third aunt tonight since she lives in Boston. We're hopefully going to go out to eat at some point this weekend (probably Sunday). I haven't seen her and my uncle since last summer (which actually isn't that long ago). I haven't seen my cousin in a few years since he didn't make it out to the wedding with my aunt and uncle.

Oh, Boston. Why has your snowstorm prevented me from seeing my G-poo?

Homework Tonight and Upcoming Trip

I've been meaning to post about my weekend, but that's most likely not going to happen tonight. Tonight's not the most "carefree" of nights. I've got to practice for a presentation that I'm giving tomorrow. I've got to iron Greg's shirts because he's got the better excuse of having to study for the CPA exam. And, I'm flying out Wednesday morning to a client out in Maine. I'll be staying over the weekend and coming back on the Friday, the 16th (all those lost nights of scrapbooking/sewing/other craftiness!). I will, over the weekend, be partaking in some skiing and/or snowboarding. I'll be taking lessons and going real easy, especially after the little snafu that happened last time I went skiing (tore my ACL). Anyway, I hope to have internet in the hotel (what ghetto hotels don't nowadays?), but blogging will likely be out of the question as I don't intend to use my work laptop to do so. I'm going to try to finish up my weekend post tomorrow night though. Maybe if I see a moose in Maine, I'll get pictures of it!

Suns Game and Artsy Weekend

Greg and I went to the Sun's game today against the Lakers. I have to say that although basketball doesn't tend to be particularly interesting to me, it's more fun to watch live versus on TV. One of Greg's coworkers had some season tickets, so Greg and I went with her and another of Greg's coworkers/former classmate. The Suns won (yay!) and I saw one of my coworkers perform who is on the Suns dance team. I was impressed . . . it's interesting (maybe even weird, sometimes) to see people out of the context or environment that you normally see them (which is, in the case of this coworker, only in a professional work environment). Anyway, I remember that the last time the Suns did really well (and I mean, really well), I was in 2nd grade and the Suns made it all the way to the finals/championships/whatever it's called and played the Bulls (but lost in the end).

Yesterday, Greg and I did some artsy things. In the morning, we did the Art Detour downtown where we walked around to different galleries and studios. I think much of the art didn't suit our tastes, but it was fun to do at least once. One of the things that I really like about downtown is that many of the galleries and studios are in older, historic buildings and homes and I love looking at historic structures. We also saw this workspace in one of the studios we visited and thought it was kind of cool:

There was also this older home converted into a wine bar/restaurant:

P3030009

I liked the look of the house from the outside. Had some nice "vintage" touches.

After the Art Detour, we made a stop at this craft show, Briar Patch Marketplace, at Mountain Pointe. Greg indulged me, because typically he wouldn't want to go to these types of things with me. The show this time was a lot smaller than I recall (like half as big), but Greg and I ended up really liking this baby quilt and bought it:

Not that we're planning on using it any time soon.
